Yijin Zhang- Creative Brief

I designed the Page for the Rachael Ray’s Yum-o! It is a nonprofit that empowers kids and their families to develop healthy relationships with food and cooking. So the target audiences are children and their parents. So I tried to make the page as simple as possible. I used a lot of pictures to attract kids’attentions. Also, I used the Microsoft Tai Le in this page, because it’s not only easy to read, but also reminds me of childhood. And I used the same orange in the page, because it is the color of the logo. I didn’t show “DONATE” part in the page. Because I want it to open in a new window, so that audiences can type in their card information clearly and safely.

In the mobile page, I used limited characters. Pictures and titles of the articles are main content of the mobile page, so people can enjoy this page easily. By clicking the title, audiences can get into another page, which has complete recipes or articles.

Both Food.com and Jamieoliverfoodfoundation.com inspired me. They are all websites about food, and they display recipes in a very clear way.

Zhang Yijin Magazine

I want to tell a story about endangered snow leopard, so I use red in my title. It’s like a bullet, or the potential threaten to the species. Also, I took the light blue from the snow leopard’s eyes. To regulate the side bar,  I put the similar color besides the text box. The title should be bold and attractive, that’s why I use Arial Black. I used two columns, but I changed into three, because two column would cause too many widows.

My client is Federal Espress. The event is FedEx providing free delivery to people’s homemade gifts. I chose the bear to represent homemade gift, and the flying box to show “free”. I drew sketches by myself, and finally found drawing icons was so hard, I spent most of my time in drawing bear, box and wings. As a result, I didn’t get time coloring it. Lacking of eyes made by button and more details, the bear doesn’t like a homemade bear.

Besides, I really should make the color better. But I learned a lot, and I will definitely redo it. In addition, I will make a logo for this event when redoing it.

Zhang Yijin– Resume Design Version 2

It was a interesting project, and I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks to the plain design that I got, I can use Syracuse Orange that I wanted to use.

To communicate information efficiently to a communication corporation or a public relations company, I tried to make resume as simple as possible. Meanwhile, I set a littlt text box in the bottom right corner to make it central symmetric with wordmark. Yet, my first version was plain, and also, text box in the right corner seemed strange. So I gave up the central symmetric idea, then I got a concise but boring resume.  To make it more interesting, I used Syracuse Orange, and got my final version.  I am trying to work on other versions, maybe write down more content to enrich it, but I will control the content to make space for the cute orange.

Found Typography – Yijin Zhang

"Y" found by Wendy (Yijin)

Here is the link to my pictures in Flicker.

It was a quite challenging but interesting assignment, and I could take more creative pictures if take my time. Letter “Y” that I found in flip-flop is my favorite. It is clear and cute. I also like “v” in my v-neckline sweater, and “M” made by shoes. I felt like I can found 26 letters in different clothes if I want.

I took pictures in many different places: classroom in Newhouse, cross in front of the bird library and Destiny Mall. Thanks to this task, I got more familiar with our community. Moreover, I learned appreciating beautiful details all over the world.

I enjoyed the class a lot, though it was my first time using inDesign, and I haven’t  got familiar with those complicated buttons. I understand why they say technic isn’t  important, the idea is. Maybe the reason is that most people can practice to use the software skillfully, but only a few can think creatively.Meanwhile, thinking creatively is a talent rather than the reward of hard-working. However, no matter my ideas are good or plain, I really enjoy to bring them into reality.
